Welcome

Peninsula Dispatch is an independent analytical platform focused on security, diplomacy, and strategic risk on the Korean Peninsula.

Rather than covering breaking news, Peninsula Dispatch aims to explain why developments on the Peninsula matter over the medium to long term. Its analysis looks beyond immediate headlines to examine trajectories, constraints, and choices shaping inter-Korean relations, North Korean foreign policy, and regional approaches involving the United States, China, Japan, and other stakeholders.

Analysis focuses on assessing risks, exploring policy options, and evaluating the wider strategic implications of different courses of action, contributing to more nuanced debate on one of the world’s most complex security challenges.

Peninsula Dispatch publishes primarily two types of content. The Context provides focused analysis of important emerging issues, combining background and strategic framing to offer a clear and concise understanding of the issue at hand. Strategic Insights are longer form analytical briefs and reports examining key issues of relevance to the Korean Peninsula.

The site is run by Dr. Gabriela Bernal, a Seoul-based political and security analyst specializing in Korean Peninsula affairs.
