Welcome
Peninsula Dispatch is an independent analytical platform focused on security, diplomacy, and strategic risk on the Korean Peninsula.
Rather than reporting along mainstream lines, Peninsula Dispatch explains why developments matter over the medium to long term. In addition to tracking relevant domestic developments, its analysis considers how a rapidly changing global order is reshaping the trajectories, constraints, and choices affecting Korean Peninsula security; inter-Korean relations; and North Korean foreign policy. The strategies of key stakeholders such as the United States, China, Japan, Russia, and others are also regularly included in analyses, given the strategic relevance of the Peninsula beyond its borders.
Content is organized primarily into three formats:
Emerging Signals identifies new and evolving developments on the Peninsula, assesses their strategic relevance, and maps where current dynamics may be heading.
Undercurrents examines new and evolving dynamics across politics, economics, and society that are underreported but carry strategic weight for the Korean Peninsula.
Strategic Insights are longer-form analytical reports on key issues affecting the Peninsula.
Peninsula Dispatch is run by Dr. Gabriela Bernal, a Seoul-based political and security analyst specializing in Korean Peninsula affairs.
